Halls events and social life

Living in halls is the ideal start to your University journey. You’ll become part of a big, friendly community and be able to attend events and socialise with a wide variety of people, from your own hall and other halls nearby.

There really is something for everyone on the halls events programme and, if you don’t spot anything you like, let us know and we will try our best to put it on! We hope to see you at one of our events very soon.

Join in our events programme

One of the best things about living in halls is that you can join in with all of our exclusive events and activities. Events located at any hall are open to all halls students, providing another fantastic opportunity to meet new people and become a part of the wider halls community.

All events are either free or subsidised so, even if you are on a tight budget, there'll be something for you. During your first few weeks in halls make friends with your flatmates, neighbouring flats, and other residents by going out together to familiarise yourself with your new city, or arrange to go to some Freshers events to break the ice. Check the halls Facebook and Instagram pages for more details.

Some events below require you to book your place by emailing socialreps@derby.ac.uk. Other events need to be booked and paid for via the Unishop. And, Union of Students events need to be booked online. All inter-hall sports tournaments should be booked through the UOD Active app.

A place called home

Staff are always on-site so feel free to pop into the office for a friendly chat or, if you are experiencing any problems, talk to your Hall Manager. The Residential Assistants and cleaners do weekly flat visits so you’ll soon get to know your whole halls team. Another bonus is the on-site common room which includes a free pool table, Playstation four, large TV and board games. Students can also book the room for free for a private gathering with friends. Just speak to your Hall Manager and they’ll be happy to help you arrange it.

Watch as students Harry, Tan, Charley and Jack, let you into their day-to-day lives, talking about their own experiences and what they love about halls. From exploring Derby or cooking in halls, to being a part of halls events or meeting up with society friends, this will give you a true flavour of life in halls.
