There's a wide choice of student accommodation in Derby so whatever you are looking for, you're sure to find something that suits your needs. University halls offer en suite and standard rooms, as well as single, double and studio accommodation close to the University sites and the city centre.

Halls of residence

Derby's halls of residence are owned and run by the University so you can be sure of good quality accommodation - a real home from home. Our award-winning halls are the ideal place for you to live during your time at University and the good news is that you can live in halls throughout your studies if you want to.

Most first-year students live in halls. They're just a short walk from our campuses and a great place to make friends and settle into University life. Halls offer you safe, good-value accommodation in convenient locations with some added extras, like an awesome events programme and weekly cleaning service.

There are so many benefits to living in our halls community.

If you're interested in seeing the rooms in halls, take a look at the photo galleries and 360-degree tours on our halls pages to get a better idea of what's on offer. Better still, come to an Open Day to take an accommodation tour and speak to Student Living staff who will be able to answer your questions and give you guidance and advice.

Award-winning accommodation

Our halls of residence were shortlisted in six categories in the National Student Housing Awards 2021:

  • Best University Halls
  • Best Environmental Management
  • Best Student Wellbeing
  • Best Value for Money
  • Best Moving in Experience
  • Best Booking Experience

And we won the Best Environmental Management award.

The National Student Housing Survey is the largest survey on the quality of student accommodation in the UK, with around 35,000 students completing it every year. The results are 100% based on direct feedback from home and international students and focus on all aspects of a student's experience in their accommodation.

I’ve lived at the same hall for the whole time I’ve been at University. Living in halls offers great opportunities to socialise. It’s stress free with all inclusive bills and fast WiFi, and staff are friendly and always willing to help.
