Preparing to move in to halls

We're looking forward to welcoming you to halls. In 2025, most people will be arriving during Welcome Weekend which is 12,13 and 14 September.  Don't worry if you need to arrive earlier or later. After A level results day on 14 August, you'll be able to book an arrival slot by logging into your Student Living account. Before you can book a slot though, you'll need to complete the halls induction which takes about 20 minutes. It's full of useful information you'll need to know before you move in. Then once you've booked your arrival slot you'll be able to get ready for the big move. The information below will help you get ready for moving-in day.

We also welcome arrivals in January and will publish details nearer the time. .

Residence Life events and activities

Our Residence Life events and activities are designed to help you settle in, meet new people, and explore new experiences. This support is especially valuable at the start of the year, when it’s normal to feel a little homesick or unsure about making connections.

Most events are free and don’t require booking, just turn up and join in. It’s a built-in social life right on your doorstep, focused on fun and making everyone feel welcome. You'll become part of a vibrant, friendly community with the chance to attend events and meet students from both your own hall and nearby halls.

I love the uni halls events because they create a sense of community and help build new friendships between students. It also helps to build new skills and live some brilliant life experiences. This was one of the things that drew me to attending the University of Derby.
