Toyota Burnaston landing image Venue Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd., Burnaston, Derbyshire, DE1 9TA

Event date: Friday, 21 July 2017 at 9.00 AM
Running until: Friday, 21 July 2017 at 3.00 PM

This important event builds on the Business in Combat seminar, which took place in March 2017 at the University’s One Friar Gate Square site in Derby, and the Modern Slavery event the University hosted in 2016.

The event has the full support of Derbyshire Constabulary who are playing a pivotal role in helping to eradicate modern slavery across the East Midlands, working closely with businesses, charities, the clergy and academics. Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Haward, who has lead responsibility for combatting modern slavery across the five forces in the East Midlands, is passionate about bringing about an end to this blight on our society:

As a police service we want to work with you to help identify and care for the victims, provide help and support to you in tackling Modern Slavery to ensure your brand is seen as a beacon of good practice and to bring to justice those who abuse others in this way. As a business you can make a huge difference to people’s lives and your commitment to this situation would be hugely appreciated.

During the course of the workshop-style event, the aim is to develop and agree a practical action plan that can be implemented by law enforcement agencies and businesses alike, which will help to identify and eradicate modern slavery from corporate supply chains.

The event, which will take place at Toyota Motor Manufacturing’s production facility at Burnaston, Derby, is aimed at companies across the East Midlands, but particularly those with a turnover of more than £36m, who are legally bound by the Modern Slavery Act 2015 to ensure that their supply chains are free from trafficked or otherwise exploited labour.

Further details will be sent to delegates once they have booked their free place.
