An Introduction to Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Session Overview

This interactive, face-to-face, workshop is ideal for students, academics and those working in industry and corporate settings across all levels.

Participants will be introduced to the key stages of systematic reviews, and how to develop a review protocol and a search strategy. The session will also introduce how to conduct data extraction, risk of bias assessment and effect sizes in systematic reviews. Finally, through a combination of theoretical insights and hands-on exercises, participants will gain the expertise needed to critically appraise, conduct, and interpret systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

By the end of this training learners will be able to: 

• Develop a clear understanding of the systematic review process, including the importance of well-formulated research questions and study selection criteria.
• Acquire skills in designing and executing comprehensive search strategies to identify relevant literature in systematic reviews.
• Explore the intricacies of meta-analysis, including techniques for synthesising quantitative data and addressing publication biases.
• Develop the ability to interpret and communicate the findings of systematic reviews and meta-analyses effectively.
