Counselling and Mental Health Services

Access to therapy

The Counselling and Mental Health team within Student Services team can provide short-term counselling, which is free for all students. We also have links with a local NHS Therapy service Trent PTS.

The service that you may be offered will depend on your needs at the time and you can discuss this further with an advisor should you need to.

Counselling is an opportunity to talk, confidentially, about problems that concern you. You'll work with your counsellor to identify achievable goals. This work will be carried out in a practical and pragmatic way to find a solution to your problems as quickly as possible.

Time can be effectively used to deepen your understanding of what's happening, develop strategies to resolve a difficult situation and practice new ways of responding.

Please fill in our online appointment request form. Once you've submitted your form someone will contact you to make an appointment or discuss with you further. We hope to get back to you as soon as possible but please allow 5 working days for us to get back to you

We will discuss the support that may be beneficial for you, this may include:

TalkCampus app

If you’re struggling at any point and you’d like to talk to someone, you can access the TalkCampus app. TalkCampus is an online peer-to-peer mental health and wellbeing support network. It provides free and instant support for your mental health and wellbeing anytime of the day, anywhere in the world.

The app allows you to be anonymous while accessing support from peers across the globe in a safe, effective and encouraging environment. You can also access the Clinical Helpline, a 24/7 multi-language chat service where you can engage with trained mental health professionals. The app is available to all students here at the University of Derby.
