Derby staff parking

The income generated from staff and student parking charges is essential in providing car park management and reinvestment in sustainable travel facilities.

The permits work on a salary reduction scheme and, to support hybrid working where possible, we are also able to offer the option of a reduced pay-as-you-go rate at Derby sites (Kedleston Road, Markeaton Street, Britannia Mill, One Friar Gate Square and the Enterprise Centre) where we currently have car park management, for those who drive to work infrequently. Unfortunately, we are not currently able to offer pay-as-you-go (PAYG) at Buxton, Leek or Chesterfield.

You can apply for a digital permit via Derby City Council's MiPermit system, if you already have a University of Derby permit from before the change, you will need to apply for a new digital permit with your University email address.

You can change your registration on the MiPermit website. This can be found on the homepage under the heading 'other'.

If you are a temporary member of staff, please email for a permit application.

We encourage all staff to firstly consider alternatives to driving to work. In particular, we offer a frequent, all-year-round, Unibus for staff that connects Derby Station, Derby Bus Station and all University sites.

If you are driving, please consider car-sharing - even just once a week saves 10% on your fuel costs.

We have a limited amount of parking spaces on-site for our staff and students and do appreciate it being taken by those who need it most.

There is no guarantee of space being available. If all car parks are full, alternative parking should be sought.

The salary reduction scheme works as follows: 


The new option to pay as you go instead of using the salary reduction scheme costs a flat rate of £3 per day (only available at Derby sites at present), you will need to pay each time you park via the MiPermit website or app with the card you have registered.

How to Pay As You Go:

To apply for a PAYG permit, visit the Derby City Council MiPermit portal. You will need to make sure you apply for your permit using your university staff email address and make sure that you complete your account registration at the end so you can set a password to login.

If you have not done so already, you will need to add your payment details to your MiPermit account by choosing "Billing Details" from the menu and complete the "Secure Payment Details" information and then choose the "save Details" button.

You will also need to add your vehicle details once to your MiPermit account, this can be done by choosing "Members & Vehicles" from the menu and select "Add New Vehicle".
