Bringing your car to University

Please think carefully before you bring a car to University. Car parking spaces are limited and parking at the academic sites are reserved for staff and those commuting long distances.

There are regular Unibus services running during term time and many students choose to walk or cycle to University. Using a car for travelling to University each day is costly and impractical as all sites are very close to halls. Many students who bring cars use them for travelling to placement locations, or for travelling home at weekends.

The following halls have their own car parks:

Annual parking permits can be purchased for cars and motorbike/mopeds. You will be sent information about this after you apply for halls.

Parking terms and conditions: The parking code

Student Living provides parking spaces on a first-come, first-served basis. By applying for parking and having a space issued to you, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions:

Your permit and access

Your parking space is valid for the hall stated on your email confirmation. It is not transferable between Student Living halls and therefore you must not park or attempt to park at a hall where your permit is not valid
Your permit is valid from 6 pm on moving in day and expires at 10 am on move-out day
You must not allow unauthorised vehicles to gain access to any Student Living car park
You must not share your keys, fobs or access codes with anyone
You should display your permit in your windscreen whenever your vehicle is parked on site

Your vehicle

Your vehicle must be roadworthy, have a valid MOT, insurance and tax
You must have a valid licence to drive your vehicle
You must not perform any mechanical repairs to your vehicle while parked on Student Living sites

Your conduct

You must park only within the marked student parking bays
You must not park your vehicle where it blocks the barrier or other vehicles from entering or exiting the car park
You must abide by the posted speed limit on site. Where the speed limit is not displayed, it is 5 mph
You must conduct the driving of your vehicle in accordance with the highway code
You must keep noise to a minimum, including the use of audio equipment

Please note:

Student Living accepts no responsibility for any vehicles or their belongings while they are parked on Student Living premises
Parking charges are non-refundable except where you withdraw from the University and subsequently terminate your accommodation contract with Student Living. In this event, a proportion of the parking fee may be refunded in accordance with Section 6.7 of your licence agreement. If you breach or allow any visitors to breach this code, then disciplinary action may be taken against you
In submitting your application, paying for parking and being allocated a parking space, you are agreeing to abide by this parking code.
