Dr Clarke's area of expertise is in performance under pressure and the psychological predictors and mechanisms that are associated, specifically for 'choking' and 'the yips' within sport.

Gulcan Garip
Programme Lead in Psychology

Dr Gülcan Garip is the Programme Co-Lead for MSc Psychology and teaches on the MSc Health Psychology. Gülcan is a registered Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), a registered Health Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council, a member of the BPS Division of Health Psychology, and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Senior Lecturer in Psychology

Claire has worked at the University of Derby since 2011. She has a BSc. (Hons) Psychology degree, MSc. in Health Psychology and PhD in Clinical Psychology. She worked as a Research Associate within the Psychopharmacology Department at the University of Nottingham testing novel treatments for Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer's and Addiction problems.

Lecturer in Psychology, Melanie Haughton, has worked in education since 2000. Melanie has worked as a Higher Education Learning Mentor, she has also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Lancaster University and as an Associate Academic at the University of Derby.

Lecturer in Psychology

Lecturer in Psychology, Garrett Moran, has over 30 years’ experience of teaching psychology to A’ level, undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has also worked with a number of organisations identifying sources of stress and providing intervention frameworks to promote a healthier organisation.

Senior Lecturer

Dominic Petronzi is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology (online) at the University of Derby with a keen interest in the psychology of education, and qualitative research. Dominic teaches modules in each of these areas and also has a range of practical experience in supporting primary and secondary students in school and residential settings, with a focus on supporting SEND.

Laura Rayment
Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology

Dr Laura Rayment previously worked in prison psychology and was involved in research into the treatment of criminal psychopaths. Laura began working for the University of Derby in 2014 and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology and the Programme Leader for the new BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychology (online) Programme.

Professor Miles Richardson leads the Nature Connectedness Research Group.

Lecturer in Psychology

Hettie joined the University of Derby in May 2020. She gained her PhD in Psychology at the University of Lincoln in 2013 exploring the impact of simulated hearing loss on executive function, namely; impulsivity, sustained attention and working memory. 

Professor of Psychology

David Sheffield is a Professor of Psychology at the College of Health, Psychology and Social Care. He is also Head of Research and Director of Professional Psychology Programmes at the University of Derby Online Learning. He also supervises PhD and Doctorate students. David's work has helped us to understand the impact of stress and pressure on health, wellbeing and performance.

Lecturer in Psychology, Dr Boban (Bob) Simonovic, joined the University of Derby as a Lecturer in Psychology in November 2017, having previously worked as an associate lecturer (online), and as a teaching assistant on campus.

Dr Elaina Taylor is a Lecturer and Chartered Psychologist. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, full member of the Division of Health Psychology and Chartered member of the British Psychological Society.

Lecturer in Psychology Dr Katia Vione joined the University of Derby in April 2017, having previously worked as a lecturer in Brazil and as a teaching assistant at Cardiff University.

Programme director for Psychology, Dr Sophie Williams is a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Sophie's research interests lie in women’s health and long-term conditions, her research particularly focuses on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and quality of life.

Dr Natalie Zadurian is the Programme Co-Lead for the MSc and PGDip Psychology programmes. She teaches across both the undergraduate and postgraduate online psychology programmes, with specialisms in Health Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Research Methods.
