Swimming

The University of Derby are launching a new Performance Swim programme in September 2023, with the future goal of competing for BUCS championship medals and supporting athletes on the pathway to Major Games success.

Attracting talent

The performance swim programme will run in partnership with Deventio eXcel, Derbyshire's elite swim squad. The squad trains at the new 50m pool at the Moorways Sport Village. Deventio eXcel is one of UK's leading swim programmes producing multiple national and international swimmers, most recently Jacob Whittle who competed at the 2020 Olympic Games aged 16. Other alumni include Molly Renshaw, Abbie Wood, Imogen Clark and Sarah Vasey.

Our swimming scholars

Our performance swim team includes multiple BUCS medallists Georgie Pryor and Olympian Jack Burnell.

Georgie is studying a master's in . She has been massively successful - coming first in the 50m and 100m Butterfly Short Course Nationals as well as becoming a double national champion at the Winter Championships 2021.

Coming to Derby University has been a great opportunity, I have really benefitted from the Strength and Conditioning, which I feel has been key to my development. I have had great flexibility and support from both Team Derby and the academics.
