Detallado Design Limited is SME focusing on CAD design of various production elements for a wide portfolio of customers.

The complexity of the designs produced by the SME together with the complexity of currently used software has a significant impact on the methods used by the designers. The methods used by the designers are very often bespoke and developed by each of the designers. A significant aid in the work of the designers would be keyboard allowing to fit own methods of work with increasingly complex software.

Why engage with TEM?

Detallado required assistance with gaining a better understanding of market keyboards with a set of functionalities indicated by the SME.  For example customisable buttons and prototyping a number of customised keyboard elements fitting with the current keyboard prototype.

Also wanting asstitance with the market survey aiming at the identification of currently available keyboards.

What was the impact of TEM?

The TEM project provided a recommendation of 3D printing with various elements of customised keyboard elements. The selected 3D printing technology allows for very high shape repetition as well as provides high surface quality. The elements provided to Detallado Design Ltd. are very high quality both when considering the surface quality as well as mechanical properties.

Very small details of the designed elements have been successfully printed. Some elements have been printed in two variants: glossy and mat to provide various user experience.

The market survey aimed at the identification of currently available keyboards,y attained more grounded information on the available keyboards and reviewed the historically and currently available.

The company received a number of prototype elements of keys, sliders and key enclosures to be used in the prototyping of the keyboard elements and keyboard attachments.

Detallado Design says 'working with the University of Derby team we have learned how universities can help businesses such as ours and how beneficial this is. We gained deeper knowledge about similar products available on the market and benefits of 3D printing in developing prototypes. We are happy that we had support on this stage'.
