Branch out in STEM

Technology and the online space is quickly evolving, and never has it been more important to ensure your organisation has the skills needed to navigate this part of your business. Our brand new programme is designed to improve the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) skills of your employees.

What is Branch into STEM?

The project consists of a series of workshops for small-to-medium sized businesses in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire region who need to build skills in areas such as data, digital and maths. We want to help you develop a more productive and competitive business, by giving your employees vital contemporary skills such as in data analytics and data science.

How much does it cost to participate?

The Branch into STEM programme is fully funded, meaning it is offered without any cost to your organisation. This is possible thanks to funding from the European Social Fund and the delivery partners, which include Nottingham Trent University, University of Derby, Derby College, Nottingham College, East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, Enable, and the Workers’ Educational Association.

Who are the workshops for?

Any employee within an SME based in Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire, who needs to reskill or adapt to changes in their role.

What do they cover?

The workshop series will cover key topics that are relevant to our region and that directly relate to employee performance and productivity at work, such as:

There will be a focus on raising confidence in maths because it's common for people to feel 'maths anxiety'. This has been identified as a major barrier to people developing STEM skills.

We will also be consulting with businesses in the next few months about what topics they would like to see covered, so we can make sure our workshop programme meets the needs of employers in the region.

When and where will the workshops take place?

Starting in Summer 2021, the workshops will take place as face-to-face sessions at our campuses in Derby and Chesterfield.

Most workshops will be 3 hours in length, although some topics may require a longer session.

We will aim to vary the days and times of these workshops, to allow as many people to participate as possible.
