Radical SR1 Cup

Our Radical SR1 car is used for lectures, tutorials and assessments, giving students the chance to enhance their race car engineering knowledge through practical and simulation work. The car has been taken to various track testing and race days at Donington Park and Snetterton.

2022 Radical SR1 Cup

Team Derby Motorsport took part in the 2022 Radical SR1 Cup, a unique race series specifically for Radical SR1 cars. They won an impressive eight podium trophies across 14 races, two of which were for outright wins.

“I’m so proud of how the team performed this year. The students have worked so hard at every race weekend and it was a fantastic opportunity for them to work with professional racing drivers. The team made sure to give the drivers the best car possible for each race which was evident in the results throughout the season. The ability of the students genuinely impressed the other teams there and the Head of Engineering at Radical, which resulted in us winning the Technical Award at Radical’s Night of Champions awards ceremony.”
Andy Menzies, Technical Instructor

The team was made up of BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering students, supported by technical staff, and working with professional racing drivers Tom Wood, Declan Jones and Chris Astley. They travelled to circuits around the UK, including Donington Park, Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Silverstone and Oulton Park, and took on a range of roles that you would see in a professional race team such as Team Manager, Race Engineer, Data Engineer, and Number 1 and 2 Technicians.

"I started off as a Number 2 Technician and was then given the opportunity to be a Number 1 for the last round at Donington. I learnt so much throughout the whole season. At the moment I'm interested in becoming a race engineer, and the Radical SR1 Cup has helped massively with that."
