Meet the experts

Dr Tom Outram - Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics, University of Derby

Tom is an academic and applied sport scientist at the University of Derby. Tom completed his PhD entitled 'Sequencing of segment kinetic energy in the golf swing' in 2015. In collaboration with Performance Golf, Tom has continued to be an active researcher in golf swing biomechanics most recently assessing the differences in weight transfer styles between full and partial golf swings. Tom has previously worked as a Performance Analyst with GB Boxing and is currently working with elite level football clubs to develop a better understanding of the training and match demands placed on professional and academy players.

Jennifer Wilson - Lecturer in Sports Science and Rehabilitation, University of Derby 

Jen has over 10 years of experience in the Sport and Exercise industry working as a Sports Therapist and coach. A member of the Society of Therapists, her main areas of interest are in late-stage injury rehabilitation and injury prevention. Jen is currently undertaking a Doctor of Professional Studies to investigate foot mechanics and function. As well as competing regularly, Jen also provides coaching to clients to optimise athletic performance.

Dr Mark Faghy - Academic Lead/Physiologist, University of Derby 

Mark is an academic and applied sports scientist from the University with years of experience from working with professional sports teams and athletes including football, athletics and Moto GP. His PhD research saw the application of Sports Science to the military groups and has been recognised with a number of awards for this work. As well as providing academic content on the University Sports courses, he currently researches both clinically and in the performance sector and continues to provide sports science support.

Jon Woodward - Lecturer in Sport Coaching, University of Derby

Jon Woodward is a Lecturer in Sport Coaching and leads the development of community and partner engagement in Sport, Coaching and Coach Education at the University. Jon has extensive experience in the world of applied sport coaching through working with a range of National Governing Bodies, Home Country Sports Councils and professional and amateur sports clubs. He is a national tutor for UK Coaching delivering a variety of workshops and development sessions. His key areas of interest focus on coach development, developing the coaching craft and creativity within coaching.
