International Enrolment

As an International Student, you will be required to have a Student Visa or other UK Visa category in order to study in the UK with our University.

Once you have accepted the terms and conditions and have confirmed that your personal information and programme details are correct, you are expected to update your UK term address.

Please ensure your term-time address shows your overseas home address and UK term-time address. If your UK term-time address is unknown, please select ‘Unknown’. Ensure you update your UK term-time address on your student profile once you have the UK term-time address.

Listed below is the guidance that you need to follow in order to complete your enrolment and officially register you as a student as an International Student.

Documents checks for overseas residents on a student visa or other UK visa category

We are required to conduct relevant Right to Study checks for all new or returning students who are currently on a Student Visa or other UK Visa category. In order to conduct the Right to Study checks, we will request you to provide your BRP, Passport and  Stamped Vignette to enable us to enrol you and officially register you as a student for the current academic year.

Please ensure you provide all the documents listed above to avoid delay in the confirmation of your enrolment. If you are a new student, you must ensure that you provide your documents prior to your programme induction to avoid delay in enrolment.

If you are a new student and your BRP is not ready for collection, please bring your Passport with you on campus during enrolment and we will be happy to enrol and officially register you while awaiting your BRP to be ready for collection. We will arrange a later date after enrolment to invite you to campus and scan your BRP.

Documents checks for EU students with Pre-Settled or Settled Status (EU Settlement Scheme)

Students who are registered under the EUSS with Pre-Settled or Settled Status are required to provide the following documents, which we will need to receive to confirm your enrolment and officially register you as a student for the current academic year:

You need to visit the UK government website to generate the share code and ensure you choose the ‘something else’ option on the government website.

Sponsored Students

If you are a sponsored student by a global company, government or embassy and have been issued with a sponsor/sponsorship letter, please send a copy of the letter to sponsors@derby.ac.uk

Immigration Conditions

Listed below are part of the conditions attached to your student visa. You must follow these conditions as failure to do so could lead to withdrawal from the course and the cancellation of your visa.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are fixed for the duration of your study on a program. The annual fees apply for a standard number of credits per year (e.g., 120 credits at undergraduate, 180 credits at postgraduate).

Additional modules taken above this amount will attract a module retake fee.

If you are self-funding, you will be required to pay a £8,000 deposit as part of your tuition fees. If the tuition is below £8,000, you will be required to pay 50% of the tuition fees before you can be officially registered as a student. If you are an overseas fee payer, make sure you have paid £8,000 as a deposit before arrival to allow us to complete your enrolment and officially register you as a student.

Confirmation of Enrolment

Once you have completed online enrolment, undertaken your university induction, made any necessary payments and completed all documents checks, we will notify you by email that you are officially registered as a student.

If you are a returning student, you do not need to attend any virtual induction session. However, we cannot confirm your enrolment until you have completed online enrolment and provided the relevant documents on campus as detailed in the Documents Checks section above.

Once we have officially registered you as a student, you will receive a confirmation of enrolment email. This is your proof of registration with the University of Derby, so keep it safe.

If you do not complete enrolment, you will be withdrawn from your course at the University of Derby and this will result in your visa being cancelled, so please ensure you contact us at visa@derby.ac.uk if you are experiencing any problems.
