What are you doing now?
What were the main reasons you took the course?
Watching silent witness and being fascinated by all the analytical tests that occur in criminal investigations and how they evaluate the results.
Why did you choose to study the course at the University of Derby?
Great facilities (e.g. crime scene house), excellent staff that were highly motivated in their field of expertise and excellent library resources.
What impact has studying this course at Derby had on your career?
Ignited a passion for chemistry that I didn’t realise I had and gave me confidence doing laboratory work.
How did the lecturers inspire you?
By making the lectures fun and engaging it was hard not to be inspired by their passion (two lecturers in particular).
How do you feel the University has helped you in your career so far?
It’s given me the confidence to pursue my area of interest.
What are your future plans?
To continue with this career path in the hope of advancing to a more senior role within the company.
What would you say to anyone thinking of coming to study this course at the University of Derby?
Just go for it and have fun. Don’t be put off knowing there is a courtroom scenario in second and third year, it really gives you the experience doing it in a mock court than going straight into a real court.
