Scholarships for students from South East Asia

As a student from South East Asia, you could be eligible for one of our scholarships and discounts, which can be used together to offer a reduction in fees during your first year of study. You can apply for our scholarships once you have an offer from us.

You must be applying for a full-time degree. Applications for postgraduate research, online studies, foundation and pre-sessional language programmes are not eligible for a discount or scholarship. Terms and conditions apply.

Our scholarships

Here are our available scholarships for the September 2024 intake. Successful scholarship applicants will be contacted via email to confirm their award.

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT British Campaign, this scholarship programme offers financial support of £10,000 to eligible students from the following countries pursuing one year of postgraduate study at the University of Derby, as part of our September 2024 intake.

A separate application is required through an online form once you have received your offer. Applicants must be from one of the following eligible countries:

The Graduate Route visa allows international students to work, or look for work, at any skill level for a period of two years after completing their courses in the UK.

General entry requirements

Click on your country below to find the entry requirements. You can also check the course page for any specific requirements.

Foundation

  • Students with a minimum score of 7 in the SMA/MA (Certificate of Graduation from Academic/ Islamic School) will be considered for Foundation Programmes.
  • UKVI Academic IELTS 4.5 with a minimum of 4.0 in all components (CEFR B1) is also required

Undergraduate

  • Students with a minimum score of 31 points on the International Baccalaureate will typically be considered for entrance on to 1st year of undergraduate programmes.
  • Students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the D1 can be considered for 1st year entrance on to Bachelor Programmes.
  • Students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the D2 can be considered for 2nd year entrance to a Bachelor Degree in a similar discipline.
  • Students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the D3 can be considered for 3rd year entrance to a Bachelor Degree in a similar discipline.

Postgraduate

  • Sarjana I or Diploma IV from a NARIC or government recognised institution - students with a GPA of 2.5 or 3.0 will be considered for entrance on to Master’s programmes.

English language

  • IELTS or a letter confirming that the student has been taught using English as a medium of instruction is required.
  • IB Higher Level English language with a score of 4 can be accepted in lieu of IELTS.
Foundation
  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia – Malaysia Certificate of Education. Scores of 6 or grade C would be eligible for our International Foundation Year.
Undergraduate
  • A minimum average of 65% or B5 in the Unified Examinations Certificate (UEC) can typically be considered for direct entrance to bachelors programmes.
  • Students with a minimum score of 31 points on the International Baccalaureate will typically be considered for entrance on to 1st year of undergraduate programmes.
  • Diplomas with a GPA of 2.5 will be considered on a case by case basis for advance standing onto bachelors programmes. Entry typically on to 2nd year of bachelors programmes however students can be accepted onto the final year at the programme leader’s discretion.
  • IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all components is also required*

*Some courses may require higher IELTS scores; please refer to the individual course requirements for further information.

Postgraduate
  • Bachelor’s degrees from institutions recognised by NARIC or degrees from private institutions registered within the MQR can normally be accepted for masters studies.
  • IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all components is also required*

*Some courses may require higher IELTS scores; please refer to the individual course requirements for further information.

English
  • The following qualifications grant exemption from standard English language requirements:
  • English Language 1119 taken as part of the SPM is an official General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level issued by the Examinations Syndicate, Ministry of Education Malaysia in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate with a minimum grade of C. Similarly to GCSEs this award has no expiry date
  • MUET examination Level 4 for undergraduate studies and Level 5 for postgraduate studies
  • Level 109 in the Malaysia Certified Intensive English Programme
  • Grades A-C in English taken as part of the UEC
  • IB Higher Level English language with a score of 4 can be accepted in lieu of IELTS.
  • Students who have completed English at Standard Level with a minimum grade of 6 would be exempt from standard English requirements.

 

Foundation
  • Singapore/Cambridge GCE O Level - Students with grades 1-6 (A1-C6) in each subject will be considered for entrance on to the International Foundation Year.
  • UKVI Academic IELTS 4.5 with a minimum of 4.0 in all components is also required
Undergraduate
  • Students who have taken the Intergrated Programme can typically be considered for entrance on to Bachelor programmes.
  • Students with a minimum score of 31 points on the International Baccalaureate will typically be considered for entrance on to 1st year of undergraduate programmes.
  • Students holding a Polytechnic Certificate from a recognised public institution with a minimum score of 2.0, grade C or 60% will be considered for entrance to Bachelor programmes.
  • A Polytechnic Advanced Diploma from a recognised public institution with a GPA of 2.0, grade of C or 60% will be considered for entrance onto the final year of a Bachelor programme.
  • Qualifications from private institutions registered with the Singapore Council for Private Education will be considered on a case by case basis.
Postgraduate
  • Students holding a degree from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, Singapore University of Technology & Design, Singapore Institute of Technology or SIM University will normally be accepted for entrance on to Master’s degrees. 
English language

The following qualifications grant exemption from Standard English language requirements:

  • O level Grade C6 or above in English language
  • A level Grade C6 or above in English language
  • Singapore Integrated Programme with grade C in English
  • Bachelor degrees – a letter confirming the medium of instruction will be accepted when a degree programme has been taught in English Language.
  • IB Higher Level English language with a score of 4 can be accepted in lieu of IELTS.
  • Students who have completed English at Standard Level with a minimum grade of 6 would be exempt from standard English requirements.

Undergraduate

  • Advanced Diplomas with a GPA of 2.3 are considered on a case-by-case basis for advance standing onto bachelors courses. Students can be accepted onto the second year of bachelors courses at the programme leader’s discretion
  • IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all components is also required*

Postgraduate

  • Students who have completed a degree with a minimum of four years from a NARIC or government-recognised institution can normally be considered for admission onto a masters degree
