How Blee
turned his
passion
into a
career

Five years ago, Blee Carswell made the decision to quit his job to study with us and work towards a better future for himself. The self-confessed car lover has now graduated with a Journalism degree and has taken the first steps in his career as a car journalist.

Building an audience

Blee’s Journalism lecturers encouraged him to tailor his coursework to his passion for the automotive sector and supported him in extracurricular activities, including the production of his own car magazine. He says these opportunities allowed him to better himself and grow as a person and as a young professional. He has created a Blee Carswell YouTube channel that has had over 750,000 views and motoring manufacturers have lent him cars to review.

He says: “My time at university has enabled me to transform my passion into a career. Academically, I achieved grades that I would have never of thought I’d be able to achieve. Thanks to a foundation course, the University gave me the opportunity to access higher education that would have otherwise been out of reach.”

Blee also received a Dean’s Award in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements.

Lifelong friends

He says he enjoyed his time at the University of Derby, met lifelong friends and was given the opportunity to invest his time into a subject area that he felt passionately about.

Blee is currently working as an Editorial Assistant at the Volkswagen Group UK Hub. He is pleased to be pursuing his passion and hopes to find a job as a car journalist in the future.

“I have always loved cars, so being able to find a job in the automotive industry is a dream come true.”
