Childhood Studies

If you want to give children and young people the best start in life, choose one of our Childhood Studies courses. We'll support you to gain an understanding of how children develop, learn and think.

You can choose to focus on under 8s by studying BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies, or keep your options open by studying BA (Hons) Child and Youth Studies, which spans birth to age 19. If you want to lead the Early Years Foundation Curriculum, our BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies with Early Years Teacher Status (0-5) course will give you an additional qualification alongside your degree.

Work placements are an essential part of all of our Childhood Studies degrees, giving you the chance to develop practical skills and gain a deeper understanding of children's needs.

Education Studies and SEND

Our flexible Education Studies and Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) degrees will enable you to tailor your degree to suit your aspirations, while work placements and optional travel will broaden your outlook and provide you with life experience to complement your learning.

Our teaching staff have years of experience working in education. They'll help you to get to the heart of current debates around fairness and equality, particularly in special educational needs and inclusion.

If you study BA (Hons) Education Studies, you can choose an optional specialist pathway in Career Development, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or Special Educational Needs and Disability.

Our BA (Hons) Special Educational Needs and Disability degree offers you the chance to explore the theory and issues surrounding SEND, preparing you for a rewarding career in the sector.
