Quality standards

Our online courses are just as high quality as our on-campus courses. They go through the same quality assurance process as all UK higher education courses so they are equally challenging and hold the same value.

When someone wants to start running a course at our University, their proposals have to go through an intense quality assurance process called 'validation'. It doesn't matter if it's an online course or an on-campus one, the process is just as strict.

During this process, the course is scrutinised to ensure it matches up to the high standard of courses that we offer at the University of Derby, and to ensure that it has the same level of academic rigour as all equivalent courses in the UK.

Upholding standards

As with all higher education institutions in the UK, we are required to adhere to quality assurance processes that are set out by the UK government. Our University is regularly inspected to ensure we are meeting these. Please UDOL quality statement 2018 which confirms the quality and standards of our online qualifications and their comparability with campus-based qualifications.

Online courses are worth the same

All of our online qualifications are worth the same number of credits as their on-campus equivalent. Your award will be from the University of Derby and will state the name of the course that you studied, eg BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies. Your official certificate and your transcript will not say how you studied (on-campus or online).

Check your country's requirements

If you are an international student, we do advise you to check before you enrol that the qualification you want to take will be accepted in your country.
