Here is a list of our scholarships that are available to international students starting in September 2019:

You must be applying for a full-time degree. Applications for postgraduate research, online studies, foundation and pre-sessional language programmes are not eligible for a discount or scholarship.

£5,000 scholarship to a limited number of eligible undergraduate and postgraduate international students who can demonstrate excellence in their application.

You will need to achieve high academic results exceeding the entry criteria for the course and demonstrate excellence in extracurricular activity, either in your own time or through your employment in the last two years in your personal statement.

£5,000 is roughly 25,937.17 in Malaysian ringgit - please be aware that exchange rates vary.

£5,000 scholarship to a limited number of eligible postgraduate international students on the MBA course.

You will have evidence of high leadership skills in previous or current work experience and have achieved high academic results exceeding the entry criteria for the course.

£3,000 scholarship to a limited number of eligible undergraduate and postgraduate international students from the following countries who have demonstrated high achievement:

  • SE Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia)
  • China (including Hong Kong)
  • South Asia (India, Pakistan)
  • Africa

If you are from a country not listed above, you may still be awarded a scholarship at the discretion of the University.

You will need to achieve high academic results exceeding the entry criteria for the course and demonstrate a good understanding of your chosen subject area, previous experience in the field and clear aims and objectives for the future in your personal statement.

£3,000 is roughly 15,562.30 in Malaysian ringgit - please be aware that exchange rates vary.

£3,000 scholarship to a limited number of eligible undergraduate and postgraduate international students for selected courses taught at the Centre for Contemporary Hospitality and Tourism based at our Buxton Campus.

You will need to achieve high academic results exceeding the entry criteria for the course and demonstrate excellence, knowledge and experience in your proposed field of study in your personal statement.

£3,000 is roughly 15,562.30 in Malaysian ringgit - please be aware that exchange rates vary.

£2,000 scholarship for all eligible international students studying a postgraduate taught programme (PGT).

£2,000 is roughly 10,374.87 in Malaysian ringgit - please be aware that exchange rates vary.

Early Bird Discount

£500 discount to eligible undergraduate and postgraduate international students who pay the tuition fees in full by the time of enrolment.

Masters Alumni Discount

£500 discount to eligible postgraduate taught international students who have completed a bachelor degree at the University of Derby.

Tuition fees

Below is a summary of our annual tuition fees, before any scholarship or discount has been applied. They are shown in UK pounds and the rough equivalent in Malaysian Ringgit – please be aware that exchange rates vary.

General entry requirements

  •  Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia – Malaysia Certificate of Education. Scores of 6 or grade C would be eligible for our International Foundation Year.

 

  • A minimum average of 65% or B5 in the Unified Examinations Certificate (UEC) can typically be considered for direct entrance to bachelors programmes.
  • Students with a minimum score of 31 points on the International Baccalaureate will typically be considered for entrance on to 1st year of undergraduate programmes.
  • Diplomas with a GPA of 2.5 will be considered on a case by case basis for advance standing onto bachelors programmes. Entry typically on to 2nd year of bachelors programmes however students can be accepted onto the final year at the programme leader’s discretion.

IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all components is also required*

  • Bachelor’s degrees from institutions recognised by NARIC or degrees from private institutions registered within the MQR can normally be accepted for masters studies.

The following qualifications grant exemption from standard English language requirements:

  • English Language 1119 taken as part of the SPM is an official General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level issued by the Examinations Syndicate, Ministry of Education Malaysia in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate with a minimum grade of C. Similarly to GCSEs this award has no expiry date
  • MUET examination Level 4 for undergraduate studies and Level 5 for postgraduate studies
  • Level 109 in the Malaysia Certified Intensive English Programme
  • Grades A-C in English taken as part of the UEC
  • IB Higher Level English language with a score of 4 can be accepted in lieu of IELTS.
  • Students who have completed English at Standard Level with a minimum grade of 6 would be exempt from standard English requirements.
