Our culture of real world learning means we work with employers to make sure your time here will give you the best possible start to your career. This includes degrees recognised by industry, work placements and study abroad, and opportunities to turn theory into practice.

In a city boasting world-class industries and bursting with energy, ideas and innovation, Derby Business School have strong links with employers across the spectrum – from charities to councils, SMEs to major multinational firms. This opens doors to real world learning opportunities which are second to none: placements, internships, live consultancy projects and industry visits. Every aspect of your learning will be based on genuine challenges faced by business organisations today. Our degrees could lead on to a wide variety of careers, such as in project management, consultancy, accountancy, operations, human resource management, marketing, events, hospitality, tourism, sales, logistics and finance. Our graduates have gone on to join companies such as Barclays, Jaguar Land Rover, IBM, DHL, PWC and Mott MacDonald.

Links with industry

Derby Business School have a reputation for industry-relevant degree programmes that offer unparalleled opportunities for students to gain professional work experience whilst they are studying. Many of the programmes are accredited by leading professional bodies to give you a head start in the graduate job market.

The College also frequently welcomes guest speakers such as Mel Morris, owner of Derby County Football Club, to inspire and motivate our students, and also host visiting professors, such as Lloyds’ Chief Economist Prof Trevor Williams, who offers unprecedented access to latest developments in the city.

We have developed our Business and Management degrees in close consultation with the premier professional body for managers, the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). It is one of the few degrees in the country where you can graduate with the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership alongside your degree.

Placements and internships

Our links with regional, national and international companies means our students are privileged to take up work placements and internships with leading employers. You could even secure a work placement or internship in another country, joining some of our students in cities such as Athens or Barcelona. Our students have worked at Bentley, Toyota and Rolls-Royce to name a few.

Careers guidance is integrated into all our courses, including help with job searches, CV writing and interview preparation. Our Careers and Employment Service will continue to support you for up to three years after you have graduated too.
