The future of business

Set to open in 2025, our new Derby Business School building is set to feature superb new teaching facilities which will build on our established reputation for inspirational teaching and research excellence, as we shape the next generation of highly qualified business leaders.

Planned to be net zero carbon in both its construction process and operational management, it will be the first net zero business school outside of London and forms part of our wider promise to sustainably support entrepreneurial growth and business connectivity in Derby.

As a university, we take the environmental responsibility for our large estate seriously, and this new building aligns with our zero carbon research theme, which aims to reduce the negative effects of climate change and create a better future for the next generation.

New building design

In a prime city centre location, the new seven-storey Business School building will also be a focal point for Derby’s business community, providing a place where our talented students and expert academics can network with, learn from, and inspire local business leaders and entrepreneurs. Start-ups and small businesses will be able to access the expertise and facilities on their doorstep to support and nurture their growth.

It will make a significant contribution to the vision of a vibrant central business district in the city and will support Derby’s plans for growth and regeneration.

Our research is already helping to improve lives and save the planet. We focus on the issues that matter most to today’s society including zero carbon, long-COVID, pain management, coral reef restoration, climate change and energy science.

I joined the University of Derby in January 2022 as Business School Programme Manager, with the overall responsibility of planning and managing the implementation of cross-cutting transformation projects, governance, stakeholder engagement and business change as part of the new Business School.

Derby Business School has become the latest business school to be awarded the Small Business Charter. This national accolade awarded by the Chartered Association of Business Schools is in recognition of the business school’s high standard of support for small businesses and the local economy, as well as the work it does in developing entrepreneurial skills in students. 

Derby Business School is also a full member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) - a network of business schools and corporations dedicated to enhance excellence in management education and development globally.
