What is Youth Work?

The aim of Youth Work is to facilitate and support young people’s growth, encouraging their personal, social and educational development. Youth workers are informal educators that build professional relationships with young people to support them in building a positive future for themselves and their communities. Youth work is an active profession working alongside young people aged 11-25. It is a distinct educational process based on voluntary participation, equality of opportunity and empowerment enabling the holistic development of young people.

Community Development is working alongside individuals in communities to build bridges and champion social justice using groupwork skills and open spaces to develop skills, knowledge and understanding, leading to creating positive change. Community development practitioners work with all ages through voluntary participation, equality of opportunity and empowerment seeking holistic development.
