Improving Performance of Business Operations

This short course offers the opportunity to think differently about approaches to improving business operations.

Delegates will be introduced the concepts of a ‘Systems Thinking’ based approach for improving performance which is distinctive in two ways:

• A customer centric approach to performance measurement
• Understanding the connectivity of the wider organisation

The course will challenge traditional management thinking and help delegates to develop a more holistic approach to measuring and improving business operations. Delegates will learn new skills and approaches for understanding and transforming their organisation, leading to an enhanced service, reduction in costs and improved morale.

Delivery structure 

Session 1 - Foundations of a Systems Thinking approach

Session 2 – Measuring true process performance

Session 3 – Making and sustaining operational changes

A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded for completing the course

Activities for self-paced learning

Session 1 – Develop a wider understanding of Systems Thinking, and a holistic approach towards business improvement through analysis of the workplace

Session 2 – Application of concepts within the workplace to understand true performance of operational processes and identification of improvement opportunities

Session 3 –Reading and analysis of academic literature to enhance knowledge of operational change concepts when making an improvement intervention

* All the sessions will be supported with Level 7 materials and additional activities to be undertaken between each delivered session.

After completing this module, the student should be able to:

Critically review current thinking towards the management of operational processes

Analyse operational processes through application of new measurement methods

Make recommendations for improved processes and performance measurement of processes
