Lorna Needham, BSc (Hons) Biomedical Health
Tell us about the course you’re studying and how it fits with your career aspirations?
I have done many courses in the past in order to reach a particular career goal but it has never quite worked out, I choose this course because I was excited about the topics but I didn't know where it would lead.
How did the employability conference help you plan for your future after graduation?
I didn't attend expecting it to help me much but I found it incredibly useful. There were careers there linked to my degree course that I didn't know existed and past students there sharing what they had gone on to use their degree for and it was an excellent opportunity to meet people in the industry face to face and make contacts. I was able to gain a day’s work experience through a contact I met on the day and subsequently now know what I want to do with my degree!
What have been your biggest successes so far?
I came into this degree as a mature student with a lot of external commitments, I didn't think I was clever enough to study a science degree as I never did science A levels. I thought I would be behind everyone else on the course. I was absolutely thrilled to gain the Deans Award for my first year and pass every module with a first.
How do your lecturers inspire you?
They are all involved in research projects of their own, they have been where I am and are still learning.
Tell us about your modules; what makes them interesting and which are your favourite?
Every day I am at university I learn something new, I like being challenged. I like the mixture of lab based work, lectures and discussions. The assignments are all very varied from exams, to essays, to making 3D models and lab reports. I genuinely have enjoyed all of my modules, the human body is an amazing piece of work.
