Healthy Eating Vlog 3: Our patch video transcript

Computer drawn animation of some broccoli going into a mouth.

Camera cuts to a girl (Bella) stood in a garden.

Bella speaks: "My name is Bella, I'm 10 years old and I live in London and this is my communal garden."

Growing our own veg is fun and healthy! Want to try?

Camera cuts to Bella walking along a path in the communal garden.

Bella: "Let me talk you through how me and my friends created our own veggie patches... that's my brother Sunny" Camera shows Sunny walking along the path.

Bella: "and that cat there is my beautiful cat Beemo" Camera zooms in on a black and white cat lying on the ground.

Camera moves to show borders with overgrown plants.

Bella: "so this is what me and my friend's garden used to look like - overgrown and not looked after so we worked really hard and pulled everything out and now it looks like this" Camera shows a neat border with a few plants.

"Those are some courgettes there... i've got two of them" Camera zooms in on courgette plants.

"and then french beans... we've got four of those" Camera zooms in on french bean plants.

"and then some spring onions, a tomato plant, and lots and lots of runner beans" Camera pans to show plants growing.

"we've got catnip and sunflowers, with some broad beans as well. That's our garden!" Camera pans out to show the garden.

"This is outside our flat we've got broad beans, flowers, a blueberry bush, spinach - very good for you, and brussels sprouts. That's the spinach that's the brussels sprouts and those are the flowers." Camera pans to show the plants in the ground.

Making tonight's dinner as healthy as possible!

Camera cuts to Bella standing outside in the garden.

"Tonight we're gonna have some tacos for dinner and I thought that we could include some homegrown vegetables with some radishes and spring onions."

"So this is a radish over here, I could just pull it up like this and you've got a fresh old radish that you can cut up and maybe include it in our salsa for the tacos." Bella pulls a radish up from the garden.

Bella and Sonny are adding ingredients they have picked to a bowl.

"That is for the salsa...and this is also for the salsa, a big long spring onion, might get some more, you can chop up and include in your salsa for your tacos." Bella pulls up some spring onions from the garden.

Bella moves to another border in the garden to pick some spinach.

"And this is spinach and I take the bit off from the top where its fresh, and we'll put that in the bowl for our food."

Rice swap!

Bella is in the kitchen showing a pack of white rice and a pack of brown rice.

"This is brown rice instead of white rice because brown rice has more nutrients and fibre in it instead of white rice so we're going to put that in the tacos which you could do too, because that's the challenge we are doing."

The family are sat around a table making up tacos. Camera pans to show the bowls of ingredients including the healthy salad items they have picked and the brown rice.

[Music]

Bella takes a bite of her taco.

[Mum filming asks Bella: "what do you think of the rice?]

Bella grins and nods. "Good!"

Camera pans to Sunny.

Mum: "Okay Sunny what do you think of the rice?"

Sunny: "Nothing"

Mum: "Don't you think it's nice? Which bit do you like?" Sonny holds the plate up to the camera.

Mum: "Oh do you like it?"

Sonny: "Yeah"

Camera pans to Dad eating.

Mum: "What do you think of the rice?"

Dad gives a thumbs up to the camera.

Dad: "I love it, nicer than normal rice"

Camera shows Mum sat at the table about to eat a taco.

Mum: "I like it, I think it's a bit crunchier and a more nutty flavor than the other ones but other than that it's the same."

I challenge you to eat more healthily by swapping white rice for brown rice and find a place no matter how small to grow your own vegetables!
