Callum's story video transcript

Callum speaking to camera throughout:

"When I first started my masters at the University of Derby, the plan was to work with professional footballers. But the practical experience on this course opened my eyes to so much more."

(Overlay footage of Callum analysing an athlete running on a treadmill, and operating blood and breath analysis equipment, and charting improvements on a line graph)

"My lecturers encouraged me to think about other options and how I could apply my skills during my studies. I worked for the HPU - the University's Human Performance Unit - and here I got the opportunity to help out with physiological testing for athletes."

(Overlay footage of Callum monitoring athlete on treadmill and applying their breathing mask)

"I also led a supervised project into breathing muscle warm ups with amateur footballers and I found myself more drawn into physiology and away from sports performance."

(Overlay footage of Callum with breathing equipment and drone footage showing University of Derby Sports Centre)

"After my masters, I continued to help out at the HPU and I'm now a research assistant at the University working on a project looking at Covid-19 recovery.

My advice: be open to change - you never know where it might lead."
