Introduction to UDO Your Online Learning Environment video transcript

Hello and welcome to the University of Derby Online Learning.

In this video, we're going to have a look at your online learning environment known as UDo, and show you how easy it is to navigate around so that you get the most out of your time with us.

Everything you need to complete your course is in one place. Your course material, grades and student email account are all in UDo.

As soon as you have enrolled, you'll be able to log in either through the website at derby.ac.uk or through the online app, which you can download for free. Your username will have been sent to you via email during the enrolment process, where upon you'll be able to create your own password to access your course.

Once logged in, you'll be directed to UDo where you'll find a range of different tiles all created to support you in your journey with us. Throughout your studies, you'll spend most of your time within the blackboard Course resources tile. From here you'll be able to access your study material from the Program and organisations tab along with the modules tab featured within the left-hand menu. Your learning content will range from written materials, web and document links, videos, audio files and diagrams. Your course will be split up into modules which are then split up into units, making it easier to work the content in easy to digest sections of information, usually one unit per week.

Within your module you'll find the social learning area within the left-hand menu. This will provide you with the opportunity to speak to your fellow course mates through discussion boards. You academic will also hold a virtual seminars in the social learning space, which are the online equivalent of everyone getting together in a classroom. These are always recorded if you are unable to log on at the time they’re held.

We want to make sure you have support throughout your studies with us. Your online learning advisor should be your main point of contact for any non academic questions you might have throughout your studies and their contact information, along with the library, I.T. services and the admissions team can be found via the contact tile on UDo. For any academic based questions, you'll be able to access contact information for your program or module lead via the contact option within the left-hand menu of your programme or module page. From UDo you can also access the essential university support services such as Student wellbeing and the Union of Students. You can also access I.T. support for guidance on any technical questions you might have.

If you're not sure on where something is on UDo, you can use the search tool featured in the upper left-hand corner. This is one of the most useful aspects of UDo, and it can help answer any question quickly with ease. You can also access the FAQ tile to find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
