She has worked at the University of Derby since 1999 and is presently Academic Lead of Social Work/Social Care at the University of Derby Online Learning Department. She has published in the British Journal of Social Work and delivers resilience training for Derby Social Services.

Her career so far has been spent working predominantly with young people affected by mental health difficulties; this has been in statutory inpatient care, statutory local authority provision and in the community and voluntary sector.
