Welcome to the Health and Social Care Research Centre

The Health and Social Care Research Centre, conducts multi-disciplinary, high-impact applied research that supports the transformation of services within the field.  The Centre research falls into 3 broad areas:

  1. Optimising individual health and wellbeing – enhancing the management, care and treatment of people.
  2. Promoting healthy communities – improving the health and wellbeing of local populations and communities.
  3. Building and developing an effective health and social care workforce – including building the professional evidence base and transforming the roles of health and social care professionals.

The Centre was established as a joint collaboration between the University of Derby, NHS England and the four Clinical Commissioning Committees across Derbyshire. 

The centre’s objectives are to:

  • Work in partnership with NHS England, Clinical Commissioning Groups and communities to undertake research that will have impact
  • Collaborate across disciplines, establishing network links with other research institutes within UK and abroad to produce world-class research
  • Support researchers across the College and University in their research and professional development through the implementation of the College Scholarship and Research Strategy

Our current areas of specialism include:

  • Arts in health including social gerontology & dementia, especially late in life creativity, arts therapies and creative expressive therapies
  • Health care research, including public health research and health workforce development
  • Compassion and wellbeing
  • International approaches to trauma & mental health
