Business and Economics

Students have the chance to explore how technology shapes marketing decisions, the impact of ethics and the environment, market conditions, competitiveness improvement through marketing, and the interplay with other business functions.

This masterclass spotlights enhancing operational performance through smart decision-making. Dive into how technology shapes operations, covering inventory control to customer connections. In this session, students will delve into an introduction to the United Nations Sustainability Goals and explore why sustainability is everyone's responsibility. Through a variety of case studies, they will analyse how various businesses are actively reducing their carbon footprint and generating social value. Education

Throughout this session, students will learn how to make schools inclusive spaces for members of the LGBT+ community. We will discuss language, the current context, and best practices, as well as looking at some case study examples.

A close inspection will take place considering how the terms special educational needs & disability are derived and applied. Looking at some of the professional considerations and dilemmas regarding the identification and assessment pathways for professionals and how children may be over or under identified, the ramifications and subsequent outcomes for children and their families.

Learn about the historical, scientific, and literary contexts that shaped Mary Shelley’s masterpiece, Frankenstein. Surveying the novel’s landscape from Switzerland to the Arctic, this masterclass reveals how Derbyshire plays an important part in the novel, and how Derby impacted our modern ideas of Frankenstein’s Creature.

Centring on Thomas Hardy’s novel, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, this masterclass explores the intersections between Hardy’s life, poetry, and novels to provide expert insight into the context and environments of nineteenth-century writings.

With a focus on satire, this session explores the way in which humour can be used as a tool to persuade and to establish ideology. We will examine the interaction of the language of a text and a reader’s contextual background to discuss the success or failure of satirical humour. The session can be adapted to explore these effects in either literary or non-literary contexts.

Event Management and Tourism

This masterclass delves into creating immersive events using the five senses. Learn to elevate experiences with visual aesthetics, lighting, sound effects, signature drinks, aromatherapy, and textured decor. Discover how each sense enhances event design for engaging and memorable outcomes.

Students will focus on the positive influence of Gamified Applications in Tourism. Explore the enjoyable experiences and sustainable behaviour they create, with unique features like progress tracking and rewards. History

How much have adults' views of young people changed over time? This masterclass will explore the popular culture of 1950s and 1960s Britain, examining to what extent generational conflict led to the creation of the concept of the 'teenager'.

Explore some of the key debates about the People's Republic of China under Mao Zedong, including its rocky relationship with much of the rest of the world. This masterclass examines the legacies Mao's rule left for present-day China and explores how an awareness of history can help us shape international relations in the present.

Students will examine the role of the Indian subcontinent in Britain's Empire from the First World War to Independence. It will trace the path to independence and partition and survey the many competing visions for India's future that existed at the time.

Policing

Tom was a police officer for 13 years working several uniformed roles, including a unit set up to tackle knife and gang-related violence. He dealt with nearly everything policing has to offer including murderers, shooting victims and high-speed pursuits. He also looks at the lighter side of policing and some of the more bizarre things that today’s ‘Bobbies’ face.
