Clearing
FAQs

The FAQs below may help if you are considering applying through Clearing, but if you can't find the answers you're looking for, please get in touch.

Fast Track to Clearing

Here are the FAQs if you registered for our Fast Track to Clearing option by Friday 12 August:

We advise you to wait until we’ve called you to discuss your options before applying via UCAS. If you have not heard back from us and are worried about it being too late to apply, please contact us on +44 (0)1332 592468. You can also visit our dedicated page about applying via UCAS.

If you already have your results, follow the instructions in your offer email on how to send them to our Admissions team. We will then be able to confirm your offer.

If you are due to receive your results on 18 August, we will contact you from 8am on the day. We understand it’s an anxious time but please be patient. If you have any concerns about your place, please call us on +44 (0)1332 592468.

We may have made you an aspirational offer based on the merits of your application and against our standard entry criteria.

If you have referred yourself after receiving a provisional offer and you do not meet the conditions of your offer, or miss a grade, we will re-assess your application in full on results day.

We examine your application with the programme team in the same conditions of Clearing to see if we can still accept you on the course. If not, we will always look to see if we can offer a suitable alternative. Therefore, you do not need to apply again through Clearing if you do not meet the condition of your offer.

Not all of our courses have been made available through the Fast Track to Clearing registration process. Please check our website which will show the most up-to-date courses available for Clearing applications. If your chosen course is not available through Fast Track, please check back on results day to see if we are still accepting applications.

What to do when you've got your results

These answers are for students who have made Derby their firm or insurance choice.

Your next steps depend on whether Derby is your firm or insurance choice.

Derby is my firm choice

On results day, log in to your UCAS Track account. This will show information about your offer and give you further instructions.

Derby is my insurance choice but I want to come here instead of going to my firm choice

Once you have considered all your options, if you wish to take up the offer we have made to you, please get in touch with us on +44 (0)1332 592468 and we will work with you and UCAS on the steps required to change your application to Derby.

Don’t panic – you may still have been accepted onto your chosen course or be offered an alternative.

First of all, check UCAS Track. Have you been offered a place on your chosen course?

Yes, I have a place on my chosen course

That's great news. We will send you joining instructions via email.

No, I haven't met the conditions of my offer

Here are the steps to follow if you haven’t met the conditions of your offer:

  2. If you have received a verbal offer from us, refer yourself to us through UCAS Track. The dropdown menu that allows you to do this will be available at 3pm on results day
  3. Check UCAS Track to review the status of your offer. We will be working through offers as quickly as possible, but it can take some time for the status to change to 'confirmed'
  4. If successful, we will send you joining instructions via email
  5. Contact Student Finance – if you have already applied for Student Finance you will need to let them know that you are changing your university choice as soon as possible
  6. Contact our Accommodation Office on +44 (0)1332 594111  to see what accommodation we have available

Loans, finance and money matters

Can I still apply for a student loan?

You will need to call your relevant Student Finance organisation. Make sure that you have all paperwork and identification to hand as it will help speed up the process.

England: 0300 100 0607 / www.gov.uk/browse/education/student-finance
Scotland: 0300 555 0505 / www.saas.gov.uk
Wales: 0300 200 4050 / www.studentfinancewales.co.uk
Northern Ireland: 0300 100 0077 / www.studentfinanceni.co.uk

I’ve already applied for Student Finance. Do I need to do anything else?

We will let the relevant Student Finance organisation know that you have confirmed your enrolment. But you must let them know if you have changed courses, your fees have changed, or if you have changed institutions. Log in to your Student Finance account to make these changes.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

If you are a UK or EU student and have a student loan, then you don’t need to pay a deposit. However, if you are self-financing you will need to pay a deposit at enrolment.

If you are an international student, you will need to pay £3,000 of your annual tuition fee as a deposit before you can enrol. For more information please telephone +44 (0)1332 591698, or go to our fees and finance pages.

Accommodation

When can I apply for accommodation?

You can apply for accommodation once you have received formal confirmation of your offer from Admissions.

Your confirmation email from us will include your Derby ID number, which starts with 100. You will need this to register for accommodation. Learn more about accommodation availability for Fast Track to Clearing applicants.

Will there be any rooms left in University halls?

We guarantee a room in University halls to all first year and overseas students who apply by 31 July; however, we often have rooms available after this date. Contact our accommodation team to find out more and secure your room.

If your course is based in Derby you can apply online. You'll need to set up a Student Living account first, so make sure you have your student number to hand. You'll also need to pay £50 up front to secure your room; this will be deducted off your first term's rent. If you have any questions about applying to halls, you can call +44 (0)1332 594111 or email studentliving-housingteam@derby.ac.uk.

If your course is based in Chesterfield, please  contact Paul Devonshire, the Accommodation Co-ordinator on +44 (0)1246 513805 or send enquiries to crhft.accommodation@nhs.net.

What happens next?

I’ve received my confirmation email. What should I do now?

You will receive instructions via email about how to make a formal application to us. Once we have received this, we will make you an official offer and confirm your place.

When will I find out about enrolment?

After you have accepted your place to study at Derby, we will send information about enrolment and starting your degree to the email address you used to apply. There will also be a link that will give you the date, time and location of your course introduction. You can find more information about preparing to start university on our Welcome pages.

Yes. You don't have to wait for the university you're currently holding an offer with to release you; you're now able to do this yourself through UCAS Track.

The process for releasing yourself into Clearing is straightforward, but please ensure you definitely want to decline your current offer before you do this. If you accidentally release yourself, contact the university as soon as possible to discuss your options.

  1. Sign into UCAS Track, where you will see a 'Decline my place' button on your homepage
  2. You will be taken to a page explaining what you are about to do, which will ask you to confirm your decision
  3. You will then receive an email confirming that you have been released and can now apply to other universities in Clearing

Log in to  UCAS Track and check that you have added the course and institution details to your Clearing application. Some updates occur overnight, so please allow 24 hours for your application to be processed.
