What to do when you've got your results

These answers are for students that have made Derby their firm or insurance choice.

Your next steps depend on whether Derby is your Firm or Insurance choice.

Derby is my Firm Choice

On results day, login to your UCAS Track account. This will show information on your offer and give you further instructions.

Derby is my Insurance choice but I want to come here instead of my Firm choice

Once you have considered all your options and if you wish to take up the offer we have made to you, please get in touch with us on 01332 592468 and we will work with you and UCAS on the steps required to change your application to Derby.

If you achieve better results than predicted, or you change your mind about where you want to study, UCAS offers the opportunity for you to reconsider your options. This is known as Adjustment and allows you to swap your course from results day (13 August)

Here are the steps you’ll need to follow for adjustment:

  1. Check your UCAS Track account to see if you are eligible to enter Adjustment
  2. Click the ’Find out about and Register for Adjustment’ link on UCAS and you’ll find information to register for Adjustment
  3. Contact us on +44 (0)1332 591167 and ask for Adjustment
  4. Contact your Firm choice and ask to be released into Clearing
  5. Check UCAS Track for an update on your application status. Our Admissions Teamwill confirm your place
  6. You will be sent joining instructions via email
  7. Contact our Accommodation Office (Derby and Buxton) on +44 (0)1332 594111 to see what accommodation we have available

Don’t panic – you may still have been accepted onto your chosen course or be offered an alternative.

First of all, check UCAS Track. Have you been offered a place on your chosen course?

Yes, I have a place on my chosen course

That's great news. You will be sent joining instructions via email.

No, I haven't met the conditions of my offer

Here are the steps to follow if you haven’t met the conditions of your offer:

  1. Contact us on  +44 (0)1332 592020  to discuss your options. At this point, we may be able to make you a verbal offer
  2. Refer yourself to us through UCAS Track. The dropdown menu that allows you to do this will be available at 3pm on results day
  3. Check UCAS Track to review the status of our offer. We will be working through offers as quickly as possible, but it can take some time for the status to change to 'confirmed'
  4. If successful, you will be sent joining instructions via email
  5. Contact Student Finance – if you have already applied for Student Finance you will need to let them know that you are changing your university choice as soon as possible
  6. Contact our Accommodation Office (Derby and Buxton) on +44 (0)1332 594111 to see what accommodation we have available.

Can I defer?

Can I withdraw?

Yes. Call us on +44 (0)1332 592020 and your request will be processed by our Admissions team as soon as possible.

We understand that recent government announcements around examination assessments, including new references to the use of mock exam grades –referred to on some media as 'the triple-lock' – have created a degree of confusion and uncertainty for many students. It's one of many reasons this year why we are determined to help in any way we can to provide the information and advice you need on what is best for you.

It has already been an unsettling time for many young people, for instance with the cancellation of exams, so we have taken a very clear decision to be as flexible and supportive as possible in considering the needs of applicants and potential applicants. We intend to apply this approach during Clearing and into the autumn, allowing us to support students who have appealed their grades and those who go on to take resits in October.

What to do when you've got your results: new applicants

Yes, Clearing is open to new applicants who have not yet applied for September 2020. Get in touch with us on +44 (0)1332 592020  to discuss your options.

  1. If we offer you a place, refer yourself to us through UCAS Track. The dropdown menu that allows you to do this will be available at  3pm on results day
  2. Check UCAS Track to review the status of our offer. We will be working through offers as quickly aspossible, but it can take some time for the status to change to 'confirmed'
  3. You will be sent joining instructions via email
  4. Contact Student Finance – if you have already applied for Student Finance you will need to tell them you are changing university
  5. Contact our Accommodation Office (Derby and Buxton) on +44 (0)1332 594111 to see what accommodation we have available

Yes, we will send you a confirmation email on the day we make you an offer. Remember to check your spam folders too! If you haven’t heard from us by the following morning, call us on +44 (0)1332 591167.

Log into UCAS Track and check that you have added the course and institution details to your Clearing application. Some updates occur overnight, so please allow 24 hours for your application to be processed.

Yes. You don't have to wait for the university you're currently holding an offer with to release you, you're now able to do this yourself through UCAS Track.

The process for releasing yourself into Clearing is straightforward but please ensure you definitely want to decline your current offer before you do this. If you accidentally release yourself, contact the university as soon as possible to discuss your options.

  1. Sign into UCAS Track, where you will see a 'Decline my place' button on your homepage
  2. You will be taken to a page explaining what you are about to do, which will ask you to confirm your decision
  3. You will then receive an email confirming that you have been released and can now apply to other universities in Clearing.

Fast Track to Clearing

Here are the FAQs if you registered for our Fast Track to Clearing option by Friday 7 August:

We advise you to wait until we’ve called you to discuss your options before applying via UCAS. If you have not heard back from us and are worried about it being too late to apply, please contact us on +44 (0)1332 592020. You can also visit our dedicated page about applying via UCAS.

If you already have your results, follow the instructions in your offer email on how to send them to our Admissions team. We will then be able to confirm your offer.

If you are due to receive your results on 13 August, we will contact you from 8am on the day. We understand it’s an anxious time but please be patient. If you have any concerns about your place, please call us on +44 (0)1332 592020.

We may have made you an aspirational offer based on the merits of your application and against our standard entry criteria.

If you have referred yourself after receiving a provisional offer and you do not meet the conditions of your offer, or miss a grade, we will re-assess your application in full on results day.

We examine your application with the programme team in the same conditions of Clearing to see if we can still accept you on the course. If not, we will always look to see if we can offer a suitable alternative. Therefore, you do not need to apply again through Clearing if you do not meet the condition of your offer.

Not all of our courses have been made available through the Fast Track to Clearing registration process. Please check our website which will show the most up-to-date courses available for Clearing applications. If your chosen course is not available through Fast Track, please check back on results day to see if we are still accepting applications.

I’ve received my confirmation email. What should I do now?

You will receive instructions via email about how to make a formal application to us. Once this formal application has been received by our Admissions team, we will make you an official offer and confirm your place.

When will I find out about enrolment?

After you have accepted your place to study at Derby, we will send information about enrolment and starting your degree to the email address you used to apply. There will also be a link that will give you the date, time and location of your course introduction. You can find more information about preparing to start University on our Welcome pages.
