What do supervisors say - URSS - University of Derby

What do supervisors say?

This is what some of our supervisors had to say about the URSS

What were the benefit to you as a supervisor and your student?

It’s great for the student to have a pain research placement over the summer between their 2nd and 3rd year. They get to put the project on their CV and can use it as something to sell themselves to future employers. – James Elander, Professor of Psychology

Would you recommend the URSS?

I would recommend the URSS as I am a strong believer of leaning by doing and the students are given an original challenge. The learning that takes place under the scheme greatly exceeds the learning done in the class room. – Tim Wilmshurst, Deputy Head of Engineering

If a student was considering the URSS what would you say to them?

The only negatives around the URSS are the time commitment as they have to fit into their schedule and make sure that they can commit the time. The positives are being involved in the research project and adding it to your CV. - Martyn Harling, Health and Social Care Lecturer
