Pedagogy

Pedagogy (and andragogy) is defined as the art and science of teaching. While it is mostly associated with learning, rather than a curriculum, it is worth noting the view of the renowned curriculum theorist Hilda Taba and her work in the 1960s. She professed that the selection of content does not address thinking skills, attitudes or social skills. "These objectives can only be achieved by the way in which learning experiences are planned and conducted in the classroom. How you teach is more important than what you teach" (Taba 1962).

Taba believed that the curriculum should be developed by teachers. She produced an eight-step model that is very similar to Tyler's.

The role of the teacher, and pedagogy, in curriculum development will be considered further in later units.
