Art

Study art in our creative community, where you’ll work with students from across our courses, broadening your artistic horizons. 

Our students are taught by experienced practitioners, many of whom still work as artists and designers, with lots of industry contacts, relevant knowledge and real client briefs for you to work on. From day one you’ll be developing your portfolio to demonstrate your individual creativity, personality and passion to potential employers, and every year the School of Arts holds its Degree Show - a public exhibition of final year students’ work.

Media

If you want to create compelling film, print or digital media products, the possibilities are endless when you study with us.

• Expert guest speakers are ready to share their knowledge with you – recently we’ve had visits from screenwriter Tony Grisoni, and production designer Jane Morton, while our media students attend Craft Skills masterclasses
• Our industry-standard facilities, close links with employers, and our experienced staff will help you prepare for careers across the film, radio, media and entertainment  industries
• Get yourself noticed in the job market – our work placements can lead to an extra qualification, the Diploma in Professional Practice, and there are also opportunities for internships in Europe

Why study Media at Derby?

• We’ll help you develop original, inspired work which will get you noticed in a fast-moving world where new platforms are constantly evolving. You’ll get involved with exciting practical projects that will give you a strong understanding of what it will be like working in industry. Among these is the chance to film Derby County FC’s home matches for the club’s website.
• Our media students attend workshops run by the Royal Television Society which gives them the opportunity to hear and learn from respected industry professionals. You’ll also have access to our huge range of equipment, from a Canon C100 to the Red Epic camera.
