About

I am a Lecturer within the Adult Nursing team based at the Chesterfield campus. With a nursing background primarily within acute care settings including varieties of pre and post operative multispecialty surgery and critical care.

I began training to become an Adult nurse at Ninewells hospital (Scotland) in 2004. Prior to this, I trained as a Chemist at the University of Derby in the early 1990's. I then worked in industry as an Analytical Chemist within environmental science, drug development, and healthcare research to FDA, MHRA and ISO 9001 standards, both in England and Scotland. During this time I was also given the opportunity for a secondment to be trained in microbiology.

Teaching responsibilities

I am an experienced Lecturer within the Adult Nursing team based at the Chesterfield campus. My main responsibilities include module leading for one of the final stage 3 (level 6) modules on the BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies course, preparing students for their transition to (NQN) registered practice status.

As a member of the pre-registration nursing team I have additional responsibilities of being a Personal Tutor, an Academic Assessor and teaching across both Undergraduate and Postgraduate pre-registration Nursing programmes.

Professional interests

I am keen to develop interprofessional content within the curriculum to consolidate the student experience in terms of preparation for practice.

My real passion lies in inspiring and building nursing students confidence with using health-based research. Encouraging the use of evidence based practice to inform future developments in patient care.

Research interests

I'm currently working towards a Professional Doctorate in Nursing (DPrac), focusing on exploring the influences upon student attrition rates on pre-registration nursing programmes with a view to informing service development.
