About

I am a lecturer within the pre-registration nursing team at the School of Nursing and Professional Practice, College of Health and Social Care. I am responsible for the delivery of high quality assurance education through academic leadership, management, organisation, assessment and feedback. Prior to taking up my current role, I worked in a geriatric inpatient assessment and treatment service in the NHS. Currently, I am enrolled on the Msc Health and Social Care University of Derby. 

Teaching responsibilities

My teaching responsibilities include module leading Stage one BSc Nursing (Mental health), teaching, student assessment and feedback, and contributing to teaching on shared modules such as Applied Health Sciences 1 and Public Health. In addition, to my teaching responsibilities, I have a personal tutor role. I am responsible for Personal Academic Tutoring to enhance individual students academic prgress, university experience and professional aspirations.

Professional interests

 My areas of interest include end of life care, long term conditions and dementia care.

Research interests

My research interests include preparation for practice, palliative care and psychosocial interventions in dementia care

Experience in industry

Staff Nurse in a geriatric assessment and treatment unit.

12 years experience working in palliative care with older adults. 

Additional interests and activities

I am interested in using poetry to create awareness of issues in healthcare. Whilst working as Staff Nurse, my poem titled 'Death is life's journey's end' was published during the dying matters awareness week. Recently, I collaborated with a colleague Elizabeth Collier to review a Reminiscence therapy for people living with dementia Cochrane review. This was published in "The Mental Elf" Blog.
