About

I joined the University of Derby in September 2021. Prior to this, I served as a Lecturer at the University of Greenwich, UK, and have held roles at other esteemed institutions in UK including Sheffield Hallam University and Cranfield University.

My research portfolio includes participation in several government-funded projects, such as WetlandLIFE, supported by the Natural Environment Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council, and DEFRA.

I completed my PhD in 2020 from University College Cork (UCC), part of the National University of Ireland. During my academic journey, I was honored with prestigious accolades, including the ‘President James Slattery Prize and Medal in Law’ in October 2016 for my research achievements, and the ‘Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship’ in October 2015.

Teaching responsibilities

Research interests

My research spans several interconnected fields, with a primary focus on Environment and Sustainability. I am particularly interested in the design and effectiveness of environmental policies, including taxation and regulation, and their role in addressing broader ecological challenges.

I also specialize in the Economic Analysis of Law, examining how economic principles can inform the structure and function of legal institutions. This includes assessing the efficiency, incentives, and distributional impacts of environmental regulations and broader legal frameworks.

Interdisciplinary inquiry is central to my academic approach. By integrating insights from law, economics, and public policy, I aim to develop comprehensive perspectives on contemporary societal issues. My research further extends to Public Economics and Gender Studies, where I explore how government policies and social structures influence individual behaviour, resource distribution, and outcomes related to gender-based violence and social equity.

Qualifications

Experience in industry

I have extensive experience of working with key UK government agencies, including Public Health England and DEFRA. As a Research Fellow at Cranfield University, I played a pivotal role in the WetlandLIFE project, a flagship interdisciplinary initiative funded by the Natural Environment Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council, and DEFRA under the Valuing Nature Programme.

In this role, I led the economic aspects of the research, conducting economic valuation, scenario analysis, risk assessments, and economic impact assessments of ecosystem services for selected English wetlands. My work provided actionable insights into the economic value and long-term sustainability of these crucial ecosystems, influencing both policy and environmental management strategies.

In addition to my UK-based research, I bring substantial experience from India, where I have worked with prominent federal government agencies. At the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS-CSIR), I contributed to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of science, technology, and policy, analysing complex societal and developmental challenges. My work involved providing evidence-based recommendations to support informed policy decisions and strategic development.

I have also worked at the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA). Here, I engaged in research initiatives that combined cutting-edge scientific advancements with real-world applications, facilitating cross-national knowledge exchange and fostering international collaboration.

Additional interests and activities

I am a trained artist and dancer, and I spend much of my free time exploring various forms of painting and dancing. In addition to my artistic interests, I am an avid nature lover. On my days off, I often take long bike rides through the countryside.
