About

I am a Postgraduate Research (PGR) student at the University of Derby studying for a PhD in the School of Art, Humanities and Education.

For my research, I am currently conducting an inquiry by examining the UK Caribbean Carnival masquerade as an inherited cultural practice. To support this, I am conducting investigations through critical costumes as a fundamental part of my practice-as-research element.

I am based in Derby and support the Caribbean Carnival arts sector across the East Midlands and wider national UK regions. Through my international exploration in the Carnival arts sector. I have conducted research in Trinidad, Germany, Japan, Bahamas Junkanoo and participated in Barbados Crop Over, Grenada Spice Mas, West Africa-Ghana and Beijing International Festival in China.

I held a position on the Postgraduate Research (PGR) committee as a Public Relations Secretary, supporting the My Reach 2023 Conference, which enabled new PGR students to showcase their research. I am a student rep for the School of Arts, Humanities and Education and provide feedback to the CRC committee on student-related matters. I have presented at the Festival of Humanities Showcase and at the Women in Faith event for the Multi-Faith Centre. Alongside my studies, I work in safeguarding vulnerable children and families with an amazing team.
