About

I am a lecturer in Business and Management, predominantly working with online and apprenticeship teaching. My specific areas of interest are Enterprise, Small Business, Remote and Wilderness Recreation/tourism.

Having completed my PhD at Liverpool John Moores University (Predicting user numbers to an area of urban fringe Pennine moorland using time and weather variables). I progressed to teach higher education for several years at an agricultural college before moving to the University of Derby.

Professionally, I am also an Enterprise Associate to NCEE (National Council for Enterprise Education). Having authored and delivered some of their content in the UK and China. I am also a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Research interests

I am interested in small businesses, enterprise and venture creation. In particular the skills and attributes of the entrepreneurs behind these enterprises. I also have an interest in the impact of and managing rural tourism and wilderness attractions.

Experience in industry

In addition to my role at the university, I have created several enterprises.

My proudest achievement in business is growing Cavebus Limited, from a concept idea (building a mobile activity centre in an old bus) to a company that today owns 20 mobile activity buses and three 17-bed glamping pods, operating from 20 locations across the UK.
