About

I lecture on a variety of modules across the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy and pre-registration MSc Occupational Therapy programmes, in addition, I am actively involved in the MSc Hand Therapy programme.

I am Stage 5 lead on the BSc (Hons) programme and personal tutor to a range of students.

Teaching responsibilities

I am module lead for a variety of modules within the BSc (Hons) programme and am currently on the Placement team.

Professional interests

My clinical background and area of specialism are Hand Therapy, in particular; Kinesio/Dynamic taping, splinting, and occupation focused rehabilitation following injury. I am also a member of the British Association of Hand Therapists' Education Committee which supports me to maintain clinical links and keep up to date with current practice. Since joining the University of Derby I have developed an interest in the use of Service user involvement within teaching, learning and assessment.

Membership of professional bodies

I am an active member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and the British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT).

Qualifications

Experience in industry

I practised as an Occupational therapist for 16 years at the Royal Derby Hospital where I worked within the Pulvertaft Hand Unit. Here I gained significant clinical experience as a Band 7 Occupational Therapist working with people with a range of chronic and acute hand injuries and conditions. I also spent time working within the research department of the hand unit where I was actively involved in devising and conducting clinical research studies. I also gained invaluable teaching experience working as a Clinical Educator within the medical education department and organising and teaching on numerous British Association of Hand Therapy courses.
