About

I have been teaching for over 20 years. I began my teaching career as a ESOL tutor and Dyslexia Support Tutor. Since then, I have taught (and continue to teach) GCSE and Functional Skills English and an English module on the Foundation Programme Joint Honours. I also teach and module lead Study Skills for over 200 students. I have also authored and taught the online English for Academic Purposes and Functional Skills English modules.

I have also been heavily involved with the International Summer Schools for over 10 years. I have welcomed years of Chinese summer school students onto our English Language and Culture Summer School where they have gained invaluable experience of British life.

Professional interests

I am currently involved with exploring the possibility of an exciting, new ESOL module which, once validated, will form part of the Foundation Certificate.

Additional interests and activities

In addition to a life-long interest in the English language, I am currently studying Social Anthropology and Cross-Cultural Communication. For me, the use of language in shaping cultural identity and how this impacts thought and behaviour is utterly fascinating. I am also keenly interested in how we can improve our cross-cultural communication and develop greater cultural intelligence as part of a globalised community.
