About

I am a senior lecturer in Sustainability and Environmental Management at the University of Derby. My research background is in aviation and environmental management. My PhD assessed airport engagement with environmental management and the value of future planning documents to facilitate more sustainable development in this area.

I have taught environmental management and geography at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels for over fifteen years. I have also worked with organisations to improve their environmental performance.

In 2021, I was a joint recipient of the runner-up award for “Outstanding Contribution to Sustainability” at the Union Education Awards. I have also been nominated for the “Inspirational Teaching”, “Supervisor of the Year” and “Lecturer of the Year” awards.

Teaching responsibilities

I teach a number of modules on the MSc Sustainability and Environmental Management programme including Low Carbon Energy Management, Pollution Assessment and Remediation and Tools for Delivering Sustainable Solutions to Environmental Problems. I coordinate the Independent Scholarly Activity module and supervise postgraduate research dissertations. I am also a PhD supervisor.

As an academic, I sit on the College of Science and Engineering Ethics and Research Committee, and I am an internal reviewer/assessor for Advance HE applications.

Research interests

My current research interests include education for sustainable development, sustainability in practice, environmental management and wellbeing, and pedagogy in online learning environments.
