About

I am an Early Career Academic and the Technical and Vocational Education Cluster Lead at the University of Derby. Prior to joining the University in 2021, I was a lecturer of ITE, Education and Media Studies for over twenty years in both higher and further education. My doctoral study was an interdisciplinary intersectional feminist project titled ‘Educational encounters, hybrid identities and spectral traces: Contesting the myths of Aston through the accounts of South Asian Muslim women’ which critiqued the intersection of migratory settlement, geographical location and education through a hauntological lens.  I am interested in how the past haunts the present and how the geo-political landscape and memory affects how those with intersecting identities arrive in the educational space.

Professional interests

My professional interests are concerned with how the intersections of race, culture and space present complexity and inequality within education with a specific focus on the implications that this has for teacher education and development.
