Unit summary

Subdisciplines of psychology have developed to define different perspectives and approaches to the study and understanding of the mind, brain and behaviour. This unit described four major subdisciplines of psychology: cognitive psychology, biological psychology, social psychology and developmental psychology, and two emerging subdisciplines: positive psychology and conservation psychology. It also considered some of the key concepts, issues, and debates within these subdisciplines. Throughout this unit, the methodologies and methods employed when conducting research were discussed, and some activities showed this research in action. The next two units will go into more detail about how psychological research is conducted, to further your understanding.
