Derby Accounting and Finance course achieves international programme accreditation

12 December 2023

The University of Derby’s Business School has achieved European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) Programme Accreditation for its BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance course, the first of its kind in the UK to do so.

EFMD is a global membership-driven organisation dedicated to management development. It is recognised globally as an accreditation body for business schools, business programmes and corporate universities. With a network of 30,000 management professionals, EFMD plays a central role in shaping the global approach to management education.

There are 142 EFMD accredited programmes across the globe, with 109 in Europe and only 17 programmes or groups of programmes within the UK, at 12 Business Schools. The University of Derby’s is the first undergraduate Accounting and Finance course to achieve the EFMD Programme Accreditation. It is one of a number of courses offered by its Business School, for which a new purpose-built building is currently under construction in the city centre.

Professor Kamil Omoteso, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dean of the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences, said:

“I am delighted that the BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance has achieved this accreditation, which will allow us to strengthen our international collaboration in research and teaching. Being a recognised part of one of the most important networks of accredited schools in the world will bring us closer to the international corporate world and will improve the employability of our graduates.

“As we prepare for the opening of the new Business School, the accreditation is a significant step towards our ambitions to position ourselves as a University with global impact, vision and reach.”

The new Derby Business School is proposed to be net zero carbon in construction and operation under the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) Net Zero Carbon Buildings Framework. Facilities are planned to include an auditorium, stock market financial trading room, creativity lab and extended reality (XR) suite. It will provide a place for students and academics to network with, learn from and inspire local business leaders and entrepreneurs.
