University named first ever ‘CredAble Employer’ for disability employment practices

The University of Derby was presented this week with a CredAble Employer Mark – the first organisation to be awarded in the UK.

The CredAble Employer Mark, part of CredAbility: the Quality Assurance Programme for Disabled People, is an in depth audit of employment practices and only organisations providing good employment practices for disabled people are capable of achieving this mark.

Martin Austin, Managing Director of Nimbus Disability and creator of the quality mark presented a special plaque to Lesley Bradshaw, Head of Equality and Diversity, at the University of Derby this week (Wednesday 26 August).

Martin said: “The University of Derby underwent a series of inspections, audits and interviews with staff at all levels across the organisation.

“We ascertained firstly, that disabled people were not being subjected to less favourable treatment, and secondly that systems in place were robust and geared toward equality and inclusion in the workplace.

“I’m very pleased to present the University with the quality mark and we’ll now be looking at how it responds to ongoing feedback and consultation from within the employee base, along with their legal requirements under the Equality Act.”

Lesley added: “We are delighted to be the first ever organisation to be awarded the CredAble Employer Mark.

“We’ve worked with Martin for a number of years to ensure that we are giving our disabled employees the support they need and to provide awareness training to their managers and colleagues.

“This quality mark recognises that we are doing a great job and gives us a framework for continuous improvement.”
