9 October 2015

The University of Derby will welcome internationally acclaimed independent consultant, coach, researcher and author, Dr Linda Holbeche, for an ‘Evening With’ on Thursday, October 15.

As part of a series of talks with senior business figures, Dr Holbeche will talk to Ian Roberts, Head of Derby Business School; live on stage from 6.30pm.

The free talk will focus on how organisations can become more resilient, able to achieve and sustain high levels of agility, innovation and employee engagement.

Dr Holbeche’s latest book, The Agile Organisation, was published in June this year and focuses on businesses becoming agile, innovative and customer-driven in a complex, competitive market, areas of practice that she will share on the night.

Speaking ahead of the evening, Dr Holbeche said: “I visited the University of Derby about a year ago and was very impressed by what I experienced.

“I’ve since been highly honoured to accept an invitation to become an Honorary Visiting Professor of Strategic Human Resource Management and this session will be the start of my contribution in that capacity.”

Dr Holbeche also believes that the UK is fortunate to have people who can set up and run successful businesses, advising graduates to take on the challenge: “If you’re thinking of setting up your own business you need to look for an idea that has potential and be prepared to put all your energy into it.

“Experimenting with your idea, testing it on your potential market and networking with people who already run their own businesses also offer great insight and tips.

“It takes guts and stamina to become an entrepreneur – you need to learn from your mistakes, have a solid business plan and then go for it.”

The evening will also provide food for thought into organisational agility - the capacity to identify and capture opportunities - to Derby Business School students, local business people and member of the public.

Ian Roberts said: “HR leadership and people development are key principles to running a successful business.

“We are privileged that Dr Holbeche is taking the time to share her experiences and insights with those who will follow in her footsteps and become the next generation of inspirational business leaders.”
