About the role

The Associate Professor (Learning, Teaching and Pedagogy) will join the University of Derby's reconfigured Student Performance team, reporting to the Associate Provost (Learning and Teaching). The University has an established reputation for excellence in learning and teaching. The post is an exciting opportunity to join the University at a time of great transformation and innovation in teaching and learning.

The successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of the University's Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy, demonstrating strong leadership, extensive experience in pedagogy and appropriate research activity. The role will involve leadership of collaborative research bids in learning and teaching and ensuring research-led approaches to pedagogic practice, curriculum development and the student experience. The post will make a significant contribution to the leadership, management and development of learning and teaching methods and leading edge practice, contributing to a positive impact on student experience and successful outcomes. 

The post holder will be required to work with academic staff to identify their development needs for learning, teaching and assessment practice and to offer through research informed practice appropriate interventions, benchmarking against sector research and best practice. In addition, they will be required to work collaboratively with academic and professional staff across the University and externally to shape and inform future University policy and strategy on learning and teaching. The post holder must work across the whole institution with academic Colleges, Professional Service Departments and the Union of Students.

Significant achievement in at least one of either

  • Research or
  • Professional Practice or
  • Teaching & learning

and must also demonstrate

High level of achievement in relation to both

  • Professional Standing and
  • Senior leadership

  • The names of two employment referees (including ideally, the last line manager).

  • A written statement evidencing how you meet the criteria for the award of the title of Associate Professor;
  • Details of two appropriately qualified referees (of at least Associate Professor status) in relation to the Associate Professorial title.
